Kappler is an historically significant, seven volume compilation of U.S. treaties, laws and executive orders pertaining to Native American Indian tribes. The work was first published in 1903-04. Oklahoma State University Library has been awarded a grant from the AMIGOS Bibliographic Council, Inc. to convert an initial 150 pages of complex text from Kappler’s Volume II (Treaties) to electronic format while maintaining as much as possible the appearance and intent of the original work. These pages include all of the pre-removal treaties of the Five Tribes: Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole. These tribes were chosen because of their significance to the state of Oklahoma. |

| ELEMENTARY PARTICLE emitted during the decay of certain other particles. It was first postulated in 1930 by Wolfgang PAULI in order to maintain the law of conservation of energy during beta decay (see BETA PARTICLE; RADIOACTIVITY). Further studies showed that the neutrino was also necessary to maintain the conservation laws of momentum and spin. The neutrino was not detected directly until 1956. The neutrinos associated with the electron and other particles are distinct; each has its own antiparticle. Neutrinos are stable; they are created and destroyed only by particle decays involving the WEAK INTERACTION. Neutrinos appear to have little or no mass, although some experiments have suggested otherwise. See also NEUTRINO ASTRONOMY. |
