Here's V-N-N's morning news summary for Monday, November 1st, 1999: (RICHMOND) - If you're covered by an HMO or a PPO... you may not be aware that the state has a managed care ombudsman hired to promote and protect you. Thomas Bridenstine CAN help people who want to appeal an adverse decision... in case you're either denied payment for a claim or medical treatment. He CANNOT however investigate complaints. The office is under the State Corporation Commission's Bureau of Insurance and officially opened this past summer. (RICHMOND) - Virginia has filed suit against a Fairfax County employment company. The suit claims that Executive Search and Solutions and Computer Search International took money for job interviews that never happened or were bogus. Attorney General Mark Earley suspects these companies defrauded dozens of people out of a total of $90,000. The state hopes to fully reimburse everyone who lost money from the offer. The company operated at various locations in Arlington and Fairfax between May 1996 and June 1999. (BLACKSBURG) - As the clock ticks-down to Y2K... Virginia Tech consumer specialist Irene Leech is suggesting that some common-sense precautions might be in order. For instance... now's a good time to get your files and financial records together. And for more basic Y2K planning, focus on three main concerns: water, food and energy. Many experts suggest buying reasonable amounts of food that do NOT require refrigeration or cooking. (BLACKSBURG) - We've heard a lot of talk these days about ''soft money'' contributions to campaigns. These are funds raised outside the limitations and the prohibitions of the federal campaign finance law. Virginia Tech political scientist Karen Hult says the effect is magnified in Virginia because it holds its major elections when most other states don't. Critics to ''soft money'' reforms argue that it could lead to welfare for politicians or free speech right violations. - 0-

The ITPA is a multi-disciplined organisation consisting of 1200 bankers, trust officers, finance directors, accountants & lawyers with a practical interest in the tax aspects of cross-frontier transactions.The object of our Association is to disseminate and exchange information about international tax planning. This we do in three ways - through our meetings, through our publications and via the internet. Between meetings, Full Members receive the ITPA News. This is published three times a year and contains (among other things) a summary of the proceedings of the last meeting, the program, and booking forms for the next two. We examine our subject from the view of the taxpayer; our rules exclude from membership employees of tax departments. We were founded in 1975 and are the only association devoted solely to the study of this subject.
